my uber cool GM + the best teambuilding ever.. :)
by dalila on Sep.17, 2009, under Work
saya ada seorang GM yg super cool. i was quite scared of him when i first joined TCDM but then i learnt that he’s one helluva patient and cool guy. (sometimes i think he looks like me father. haha.)

on our way to Puteri Resort, Melaka. on the left is Ainiz, myself, Julia and Liyana
so whats so cool about him? let me first start with my dept teambuilding.
we were supposed to select a theme for our teambuilding and someone suggested Arabian Night. at that point of time, no one was really looking forward for the event since we were so caught up with work and lots of meetings and all. working in petronas aint easy peasy, like some people think. we work like dogs. mad dogs.
we had our teambuilding with another dept, Legal Services Unit (LSU) that is. There were like 20 of them but I only knew 1/4 of them before the teambuilding. We went to Puteri Resort, Melaka by bus. I was happy that I managed to pujuk my good friend, Macha to join us as he was supposed to go to Penang for some rituals with his family hehe. The resort wasnt up to our expectation, a bit dusty and the ambience was a bit kepam.

When we first arrived, each and everyone of us had to create our own ‘tagline’ and ‘branding’. so we had to stand in a big circle (there were like 50 of us) and macam2 la tagline yang keluar. it was soooooo friggin hillarious and everybody was so sport!! i stood next to my GM and to my suprise, tetiba je dia pegi tengah cakap “YO YO YO IM JAIZAN! COOOOOOOL” sambil buat tangan ala rapper. everybody laughed like mad hahaha. and suprisingly not, he got the best tagline
ok thats one cool thing about him.

We were told by the facilitators that we need to organise our own dinner and we can do whatever we like. its like a competition between each dept so the dept with the highest point win. So masa tu semua cam panik gila coz we didnt expect to organise our own dinner! No one has ever told us about it, yang tak aci nya, other dept they know that they had to organise their dinner so they came prepared. We saw the other dept’s dinner video (their theme was kampung wedding) and to our suprise, they got high points for such a SIMPLE event! so me and liyana, another good friend of mine, we felt we could do WAY better than that. my GM, being him, told me and liyana that we can do better than that. “of course we can” (dengan penuh poyo kitorg cakap camtu kat GM). and thats when the ideas started pouring in, i told liyana that we can search for cushions and sit on the saprah and makan dalam dulang just like the arabs (walaupun aku tak pernah tengok real life but i believe thats how they eat haha). and i suggested to ask for the resort to lend us their pokok2 that (fortunately) look like palm trees, unta drawings stars and moons and paste it on the walls bla bla yada yada.. to them i was like Ketua Keceriaan Kelas.

we only had few hours to prepare for the BIG NIGHT. can u imagine?? we came unprepared and only brought our jubah2 but we managed to organise our own arabian night, tak rugi segala titik peluh dan tawaf 3 kali mydin ayer keroh everytime break between classes. i think we really deserve a trophy for that. and we really had fun that night, with Macha being the impromptu ‘Sultan’ wearing eyeliner and (women’s) jubah, scrumptious arabian-style food (thanks to kak zakiah who managed to deal with hotel F&B), LSU GM, En ahmad redza for the supercute camels (real gila dia lukis!), ainiz for being Marjinah the cool emcee, and i guess everyone who made the event a success. we had GREAT fun that night, everyone dance arabic-style, tangan ke atas ala2 penyamun ali baba bujang lapok regardless the age and positions. manager, SM, non exec semua join! wheeeeeee!! Me and Liyana (being the focal persons of the night) we were soooo happy that the event went well and it was beyond GM’s expectation!! cewahh!! haha. at the end of the event, Liyana’s younger bro prepared some shisha and we looked like we were stoned!! haha. masa tu, my GM gave me and Liyana a high five each and i dont know how many times he said GREAT WORK, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. so at that moment, i think i could get a PPA 1 (yeah right) hahaha.

bunch of 'drunk' arabs hahaha

TCDM & Legal Rocks!!
and the next day, he asked us to create a facebook account for my department (in which me and Liyana doubt to lah kan). haha. bahaya kot. i mean how cool is my GM kan. he never gets mad whenever we did wrong. The most that he’d say is “the damage is done. try not to repeat it next time. we learn from mistakes”. oh my, rasanya kalau org lain surely dah mengamuk. But he’s the one who can never forget but he never hold grudges. He even remember where my husband’s working and i dont even remember that I have ever told him that hahaha teruk gila. he’s a perfectionist and sometimes his detailness make us pening gila but thats what makes him a good GM, he’s very particular about spelling and grammatical errors.. He also never fail to thank whenever we make him happy of something and tak pernah berkira to say thank you even to the non execs.
Im starting to love my department more and more whenever i think about the good relationship that we have. we always have other-than-work activities every Friday like games and quizzes, free makan2 after tazkirah every friday morning.. speakers corner (we replicate Hyde Park Speakers’ Corner) every Monday where everyone’s free to talk about anything (except politics and other sensitive matters). Im happy with the ambience and always look forward to go to work but my happy thermometer spoilt whenever i see my superior.. looking at her oso dah give me massive headache. well lets not spoil the mood now alrite. :p
